What's New in Android N: Google I/O 2016.


We got the glimpse of what new in Android N in the Google I/O keynote today and Android N got some pretty cool new features to get excited about so let's jump straight into it.

PERFORMANCE




Vulkan 3D Graphics:- Vulkan is the latest and the most cutting edge 3D programming API for Android Games and 3D applications. Vulkan API reduces the load on CPU so that game developers can maintain high frame rate while adding more effects per frame.


Android Runtime:- Android N introduces the all new JIT compiler which allows 75% faster app installation and reduction in app sizes by 50%.

SECURITY


File Based Encryption:- Encrypting at the file level instead of the block level Android is able to better isolate and protect the individual user of the system. As users can now access files from anywhere in the world.

Seamless Updates:- Android can now have two system images at once, i.e. if an update is available android will automatically download it in the background and install it, that means you no longer have to reboot your phone to install the updates. It simply installs the update in the second partition and when you reboot your device, it switches partition and you are ready to go.

And the "Android is upgrading" dialogue we see after upgrading the software, is now gone thanks to the new JIT Complier

PRODUCTIVITY


Multitasking:- Android will now automatically removes the apps you haven't used in awhile from the recent screen for better multitasking. Android N finally has a clear all button at the top of the recent screen. Android N also has a function called Quick Switch, a user can now flip to the previous app by double tapping the recent button from anywhere (like Alt+tab in windows).


Multiwindow:- In Android N we can run multiple apps on the screen at the same time. It can be accessed by long pressing the recent's button then the current app will go on top and the other background apps will show up on the other half of the screen.



Notifications:- Android N have a feature known as direct reply in which you no longer have to launch the application to reply a message, you can now do it from the notification panel itself.



Emoji:- Android N now supports Unicode 9 Emoji standards with this android can now support more human looking emoji and skin tone variations and now with Unicode 9 Android brings 72 new emojis.

There are many more improvements in Android N including Data Saver, Windows Freeform, java 8 support, Native VR mode, Setting Suggestions and more. we will see all this when the Android N will release that being said Android N is expected to launch later this summer but the Working Beta version of Android N is rolling out now you can apply for beta testing for Android N here if you have any compatible device.
