Google IO 2016: What to expect (Consumer Edition)

Google’s annual developer conference is one of the most exclusive must-attend events on the Android calendar. It’s not always easy to get in, but if you can, it’s definitely worth it. the location and dates were posted by CEO Sundar Pichai i.e.May 18-20 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. The official app is also out for download from Google Play The Google I/O app includes live streams for the keynote and major sessions, schedules, maps, reminders and some fun stuff.

More Android N

As you all know android N developer preview is out and can be installed on the nexus devices but we didn't know what's android N will be called as officially, we'll be hearing that from Google's CEO Sundar Pichai.
The Android N update schedule states that the previews will receive monthly updates until July, when the finishing touches will be put on it for release in Q3, 2016 (that means by the end of September). This also means that the 2016 Nexuses will also hopefully arrive in September. To see what's new in Android N head over to the link and stay tuned for the I/O session called “What’s New in Android”. Maybe our beloved Nexus 5 may get Android N as a surprise. Well for that we have to wait and see.

Project Tango

Project Tango is a Google technology platform that uses computer vision to enable mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, to detect their position relative to the world around them without using GPS or other external signals. This allows application developers to create user experiences that include indoor navigation, 3D mapping, measurement of physical spaces, recognition of known environments, augmented reality, and windows into virtual 3D worlds.

Project Tango sessions include “What’s New with Project Tango” to demo how the hardware works, “Introducing Project Tango Area Learning” to explain how the device learns to remember spaces, a “Project Tango Developer Panel” for the Q&A session and what promises to be a very well-attended “Gaming in Android with Project Tango”. Two-thirds of the Project Tango apps in Google Play are already games, so we can see project tango in action in he second half of 2016.

Virtual reality and “Android VR”

VR is, as expected, going to be one of the major themes this year. The main VR session will be called “VR at Google: what we have built, what we have learned and where we are headed” and will be hosted by Clay Bavor, the man behind Google’s new Virtual Reality division. Other sessions include “VR and Cinema” and how to make a virtual reality game. We can also see a new Android VR product maybe a new Google Cardboard....or something else well we'll wait and see what Google has in store for us.

Self-driving cars

Google announced at Google I/O 2015 that the first self-driving cars would be released on the streets of Mountain View in 2016. So what better time to demo what Google Auto is capable of than at Google I/O 2016? We will see more on Android Auto at the event...

Google Play

Google built an Android runtime on Chrome OS and partnered with select developers to port a handful of Android apps. Now it sounds like Google is ready to unleash millions of Android apps onto the platform by bringing the entire Play Store to Chrome OS. Whether it’s Google Play for Chrome OS or an announcement about a special Google Play Store for China
*HINT:- Google working with the Chinese government to bring a custom-built version of Google’s app store to the world’s largest mobile marketplace*

Project Ara

The custom Android phones are on the way to their debut, the Project Ara brings us a platform that will include a structural frame or endoskeleton that holds smartphone modules of the owner's choice, such as a display, camera or an extra battery. It would allow users to swap out malfunctioning modules or upgrade individual modules as innovations emerge, providing longer lifetime cycles for the handset, and potentially reducing electronic waste cool huh! we will see more on project ara in the event, maybe google shows up a custom made android phone right in front of us.

Project Aura

Now Project Aura is something to excited about its the Google Glass 2.0. At least it would be if the original Glass had ever gone anywhere other than the Explorer Edition. Aura is showing a slightly revised design with a hinge and larger prism.
